Sample Sand Ceremony
Officiant:
_______ and _______, are now going to perform the sand ceremony which is a ritual designed to symbolize the joining of two lives and the ongoing existence of each ones individuality. They each chose a color sand that is meaningful to them to represent themselves as individuals and they will concurrently pour the sand into the larger vase which represents the new family they create here today.
You can see as they pour their sand that it blends together. Sometimes when you look at it ______ is the dominant color and that is when ______ needs support from _______. Sometimes when you look at it _______ will be the dominant color and that is when ______ is looking to ______ for support. But you will notice that each color still maintains its own identity.
And this is how it should be even in your marriage. When you look at this vase and see the many configurations you can see the merging of the two colors. But each grain of sand maintains its own space, never losing itself, but blending together to support the structure of the combination, for the good of all.

~ this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand representing all that you were and all that you will ever be. As these two containers of sand are poured into the third container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured back again, so will your marriage be.
